Have you heard about the dog-friendly art exhibition titled “Play More” that came to the United Kingdom on August 19th, 2016? To say the least, Play More was quite an event. To refer to it as having been dog-friendly is an understatement. This exhibition was totally dedicated to dogs. It catered to their wishes and needs. From a giant bowl of toy balls and a “head-out-of-the-car-door simulator that blew wind and scents through the air,” this exhibition was a dog’s dream.
What Is a Pet-Friendly Art Exhibition Like?
The simulator and bowl of toys were not the only fun features at this very special art event. Speaking of the exhibition, in her article An art exhibition for dogs is coming to London, Kyra Hanson wrote, “The exhibition features a selection of paintings and drawings commissioned by artist Dominic Wilcox – (a person, not a dog). The paintings are created using colours only dogs can see, (greys, blues and yellows, apparently) and the series includes an artist’s interpretation of a dog’s excitement when letters fall through the letterbox and a multimedia video installation for dogs that simulates a frisbee bouncing around a screen. Exciting stuff.”
Who Thought This Idea Up…and Why?
Who was it that dreamed up such a crazy idea as opening a dog-friendly art exhibition? As Hanson reported, Dominic Wilcox. His reasoning for opening the exhibit was very considerate. He said, “Just because dogs can’t speak our human language doesn’t mean they don’t feel the same emotions and enjoy seeing and experiencing new and interesting things. Since humans have so many art galleries to visit I thought it’s a good time to create an exhibition just for (dogs).” It’s pretty safe to assume that this individual is a dog lover!
