Some of the best art is not created from traditional mediums like chalk, paint, and pencil, but from non-traditional mediums such as rocks, sticks, bark, fabric, cardboard, and chains. Non-conformist art lovers tend to prefer “crazier” art mediums, unusual mediums. These individuals will absolutely adore the artwork of a very special artist who is rising to a greater level of notoriety as you read this.
Have you heard of artist Benjamin Shine? He has been getting a lot of press lately, and for good reason: he makes jaw-dropping works of art using unusual mediums. Articles tattling on his talent are getting shared all over social media, and his fan base is growing as a result. If you’re unfamiliar with Benjamin Shine, it’s time you get to know him along with the rest of the world.
Shine, who is from the United Kingdom, has the incredible ability to make beauty out of ordinary things. For example, he can take a mass of tulle fabric, put an iron to it, and create something that looks just like an intricate painting. James Gould-Bourn wrote, “Shine sculpts, presses and pleats the huge single piece of tulle, whose transparent qualities give the portrait more texture and depth. By layering in this way, the artist obtains different tones and shadows that enable him to realistically depict everything from objects to portraits.”
This unique artist recently had a well-received exhibition called “The Dance” which featured tulle “paintings” of dancers that were suspended in the air. The works of art that were exhibited are truly amazing. What’s most amazing is that the pieces of art are 3D!
More touching than his latest exhibition is Mr. and Mrs. Shine’s wedding portrait that the artist personally created. Guess what he used to craft this piece of art? Ribbons!
Shine also works with fabric that is woven and eyelet, and can create landscapes and sculptures. But his talent doesn’t stop there; this artist also produces things to wear (clothing and bags) and things to use (toys, chairs, home décor, and more). See pictures of his work on his personal website.
You truly have to see Benjamin Shine in action to understand how good an artist he is and how beautiful his works of art are. Watch a short video featuring Shine’s works of art here.
