Gerard ter Borch - Dutch Genre Painter

Gerard ter Borch (1617 - 1681) was a Dutch Genre Painter who depicted life in middle class 17th century Holland. He was influenced early in his life by his father, also a painter. His works were both portraits and interior scenes. Some elements of his unique style include his handling of drapery and satins, and also painting a full body portrait, rather than just the face. The colors in his paintings are subdued, due largely to the dress coloring of the times. We've included numerous well known paintings in this pattern set including The Letter, The Concert, The Spinner, The Card Players, Boy Fleaing his Dog, Hunting for Lice, Woman Drinking with a Sleeping Solider, and The Glass of Lemonade. There's also a self-portrait included.

Gilbert Stuart - American Portrait Painter

Gilbert Stuart (1755 - 1828) was an American Painter from Rhode Island who was a prolific portrait painter. He painted portraits of over 1000 people including the first six presidents of the United States as well as many political and social figures of the times. His most famous portrait is The Athenaeum, an unfinished work of President George Washington. He was praised for the vitality and naturalness of his portrait, and painted directly to the canvas without the aid of sketches, a novel approach for the time. Our collection of Gilbert Stuart patterns includes all of his portraits of US presidents (George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, and John Quincy Adams), and other well known individuals (Daniel Webster, John Jay, Samuel Meeker, John Trumbull, Abigail Smith Adams, Peter Gansevoort, The Skater (Portrait of William Grant), Mrs. Richard Yates, and Joshua Reynolds). There's also a self portrait included.

Giotto di Bondone - Father of European Painting

Giotto di Bondone (1266? - 1337) was an early Italian Renaissance Painter and Architect from Florence. Giotto made a radical break from the Byzantine (abstract - anti-naturalistic) style and brought more life to art. Giotto primarily painted Christian themes depicted in cycles and is best known for his frescos in various Chapels (Arene Chapel, Florence Cathedral, Assisi, Scrovegni). Our pattern set collection features many of his more familiar works including the Ognissanti Madonna, The Mourning of Christ, The Marriage at Cana, The Mourning of St. Francis, Crucifixion and Madonna and Child.

Giovanni Bellini - Italian Renaissance Artist

Giovanni Bellini (c. 1430-1516) was an Italian Renaissance Artist who is considered to revolutionize Venetian painting with his sensuous and colorful style applied with slow drying paints. He is the best known painter from the Bellini family of painters. His early style can be described as Quattrocento, which incorporates classical art forms from Greek and Roman sculptors. His later works matured into a more progressive style and incorporated many instances of religious symbolism through natural elements. Our large set of Bellini patterns contains a wide cross section of his works. There are many versions of Madonna and Child, St. Jerome, Christ, and numerous portraits. There are also patterns of his Four Allegories (Lust, Falsehood, Fortune, and Prudence), two altarpieces (San Giobbe and San Zaccaria) and a self-portrait.

Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge in San Francisco. It spans the Golden Gate which is the opening of San Francisco Bay into the Pacific Ocean. It is considered to be the most photographed bridge in the world. Construction started in January 1933 and opened in May 1937. It is painted in a color called International Orange, originally used for a sealant for the bridge. Unfortunately more people attempt suicide at the bridge, than any other location. Our pattern set collection contains many photographs of the bridge taken from various angles and vantage points, and at different times of day. Several show the bridge enveloped in fog, a common occurrence in San Francisco.

Green Thumb Gardening

Gardening is the practice of growing plants for their attractive flowers or foliage, and vegetables or fruits for consumption. Those with a natural ability to succeed at gardening are said to have a 'green thumb'! No matter what color your thumb is, we have a great set of gardening oriented patterns to color. These illustrations show all aspects of the 'growing' world of gardening including planting, hoeing, watering, clipping, and harvesting.

Gustav Klimt - Austrian Symbolist Painter

Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was an Austrian symbolist painter best known for his paintings of the female body. The son of an engraver, Gustav attended the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts studying architectural painting and soon after started his career painting interior murals and ceilings. He came a founding member and president of the Vienna Secession, a group credited for bringing French Impressionists to the Viennese public. Klimt's paintings contained radical themes and were considering disturbing. He transformed traditional allegory and symbolism into a new sexual language. During this time he meet Emilie Louise Flöge, who appeared in several of his works. After the Vienna secession years, Gustav's works are categorized as his Golden phase, where he used gold leaf as a predominant design element. Our collection of Gustav Klimt patterns includes many of his most recognized paintings including The Kiss, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, Fulfillment, Expectation, Portrait of Hermine Gallia, The Three Ages of Woman, Danaë, Girlfriends, Hope I, Hope II, Houses in Unterach on the Attersee, Water Serpents I, and Adam and Eve.

Gustave Courbet - French Realist Painter

Jean Désiré Gustave Courbet (1819 - 1877) was a French painter who led the Realist movement which bridged the Romantic and Impressionist movements. Courbet boldly addressed controversial subjects in his time including the depiction of peasant life, the working conditions of the poor, and various sexual topics. He was a painter of figurative compositions, landscapes, seascapes, and still-lifes. Our collection of Courbet patterns includes his most important ones including The Desperate Man, A Burial at Ornans, The Artist's Studio, The Stone Breakers, Wounded Man, The Wrestlers, Self Portrait with a Black Dog, and The Peasants of Flagey Returning from the Fair.

Gustave Moreau - French Symbolist Painter

Gustave Moreau (1826 - 1898) was a French Symbolist painter who focused on biblical and mythological themes. Symbolists believed that art should represent absolute truths that could only be described and depicted indirectly. Moreau painted over 8000 works in his career. He was a teacher at the Paris' École des Beaux-Arts late in his life. To some Gustave was regarded as a precursor to Surrealism. Our pattern set includes many of his known works including Oedipus and the Sphinx, The Apparition, The Unicorne, Eve, Cleopatra, The Sirens, The Chimera, Galatea, and Thracian Girl Carrying the Head of Orpheus

Halloween Scenes

Halloween is a popular holiday celebrated on October 31. Although it has roots with the Christian holiday of All Saints' Day, Halloween is not a religious celebration. Activities associated with Halloween include trick-or-treating, wearing costumes, carving jack-o'-lanterns, attending bon fires, apple bobbing, and visiting haunted houses. Our set of Halloween Scene patterns includes many illustrations of witches, black cats, vampires, mummies, grave yards, and pumpkins. Happy Halloween!

Halloween Spirit

Hans Holbein the Younger - German Portraitist

Hans Holbein the Younger (1497 - 1543) was a German born painter who is considered one of the finest portraitists in the Early Modern Period. As a court painter for Henry VIII, Hans drew many portraits of both Henry VIII, and the extended royal family. He is also known for painting many richly colored religious works in the late Gothic style. Our large collection of Hans Holbein the Younger patterns includes several portraits of Henry VIII, as well as those of Erasmus, Jane Seymour, Boniface Amerbach, Thomas Chromwell, Christina of Denmark, Jan Small, Anne of Cleves, and Sir Thomas More. There are also several religious patterns including The Last Supper and Adam and Eve, and a self-portrait.
