Edgar Degas - Modern Artist, par excellence

Release Date: 2007-08-01

Edgar Degas (1834-1917) was a original French artist who detoured from the Impressionist style, and experimented with realism, off-center compositions, cropping, color, and form. His favorite subjects included dancers, café life, horses, and women in non-traditional poses (bathing, combing hair and doing laundry). Our SegPlayPC collection contains 25 patterns of his most recognizable works including 'The Bellelli Family', 'In the Orchestra Pit', 'Absinthe', 'Miss Lala at the Circus', 'Women Ironing', 'Race Horses', 'Place de la Concorde', and 'The Tub'.

Edward Bannister - African American Artist

Release Date: 2008-12-20

Edward M. Bannister (1828 - 1901) was an African American artist in the late 19th century whose works focused on landscapes and seascapes, with an emphasis on pastoral subject matter. Although well known in his adopted home of Providence, Rhode Island, his talents were forgotten for over a century due to among other reasons, racial prejudice. We've pulled together a large collection of his works in this pattern set. There are some of his more recognized works included (Driving Home the Cows, The Doryman, Approaching Storm, Sabin Point). There are also many other examples of his landscape works, and also some still lifes, and a few portraits.

El Greco - European Mannerist

Release Date: 2007-06-10

El Greco was considered the architect of the Spanish Renaissance, blending his Greek heritage with his Italian homeland, and Spanish emigration. The SegPlayPC™ pattern set for El Greco contains 25 patterns created from his most well known paintings filled with elongated figures and iconic symbols. There are many portraits of Popes, Cardinals, a Friar, Antonio Covarrubias, Julije Klovic, an unknown Lady, and a self portrait. Also included are his numerous religious interpretations (The Spoliation, The Holy Family, Annunciation, Via Crucis, Saint John the Evangelist, Apostles Peter and Paul, and the Repentant Peter), and a landscape (View of Toledo).

Elephants

Elephants are large mammals living primarily in Africa and South Asia. There are two species which are recognized: the African elephant and the Asian elephant. Their distinct features include a long trunk, tucks, large ear flaps, and pillar-like legs. Their trunk serves many purposes including breathing, lifting water, and grasping objects. African elephants have a more grayish skin pigment, while Asian elephants have a more brownish pigment. Our Elephant pattern set includes many photographs of elephants in their nature settings standing in grassy fields, dirt roads, and reflecting in water ponds. There are a few baby elephant patterns and several detailed gray scale patterns.

Emil Carlsen - Still Life Master

Soren Emil Carlsen (1853 - 1932) was a Danish born American impressionist painter best known for his still lifes. His paintings are beautifully crafted with a focus on pastel tones. Emil focused on the ideal beauty and the beauty within the subject. His favorite objects to paint included cermaic jugs, copper pans, fruits, vegetables, and even dead fish The placement of objects within the scene is very important as large shapes are juxtaposed with small ones and outlines are often united in harmonious curves. In his later years he produced some wonderful natural scenes of ocean scenes. We’ve included many examples of his works including Study in Gray, Ruby Reflections, Peonies, Still life with Fish, Girl with a Violin, Moonlit Seascape, Crashing Waves, Copper and Porcelain, Still Life with Apples, Afternoon Sunlight, Bald Head Cliff, and Quarry Wall.

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner - German Expressionist Painter

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880-1938) was a German Expressionist Painter and involved with the foundation of Expressionism in 20th century art. Trained as an architect, Ernst founded an artist group known as 'The Bridge', which was mandated with ignoring the traditional academic style of painting and finding a new way to express artistic styles. This bohemian group overthrew social conventions and was accepting of nudity, and other freedoms from established forces. The unconventional lifestyle allowed Ernst to express his artistic talents in a radically new format from established art styles. Our pattern set includes many of his known works including Marzella, Self Portrait as a Solider, Tavern, Nollendorfplatz, Erna, Fränzi in front of a Carved Chair, Bridge at the Mouth of the Weisseritz, Dr. Alfred Döblin, and Czardas Dancers.

Eugne Delacroix - The Great French Romantic Painter

Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863) was a leading French Romantic painter whose passionate work with color and expressive brushstrokes played a major role in influencing the forthcoming Impressionist movement. He often used Greek and Roman romantic themes in his paintings. He is more well known for his use of contemporary struggles such as the Greeks and Turks conflict as depicted in Massacre at Chios, and Greek independence as shown in Greece Expiring on the Ruins of Missolonghi. Europe is one of the world's seven continents with a population of 731 million. Its border is somewhat arbitrary, defined by convention, historical references, cultural and political elements. There are 50 internationally recognized European sovereign states which we have included in our European Flags set. These colorful and graphic flags contain coats of arms, shields, crosses, maps, animals, buildings, artwork, stars, stripes, and other symbols of which interpretations have historical and symbolic meanings.

Édouard Manet (1832 - 1883) was a 19th century French Painter who helped inspire the transition from Realism to Impressionism. His two paintings "The Luncheon on the Grass" and "Olympia" are considered watershed paintings that marked the beginning of modern art. Émile Bernard (1868-1941) was a French Post-Impressionist painter who is associated with the Cloisonnism and Synthetism art movements. Émile was friends with other influential artists of the period including Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Gaugin, and Vincent van Gogh who jointly influenced each other. In 1891 he joined a group of Symbolist painters that included Odilon Redon and Ferdinand Hodler. Symbolist is a movement that is a reaction against realism and naturalism and emphasized spirituality, imagination, and dreams. Bernard’s style of painting involved bold forms and dark contours and some geometric tendencies in an effort to simplify nature. Our set of Émile Bernard patterns includes several self portraits, portraits, still lives, and numerous Breton themed patterns. Football Fun

Football is the predominant fall season sport in the United States and Canada. It’s also referred to as Gridiron outside North America. It’s a physically demanding sport, which requires a significant amount of training and teamwork. The main objective of the game is a touchdown where a team must advance the football into the opposing team's end zone. Points can also be scored by kicking the ball through goal posts placed at the end zone. Our pattern set includes 21 fun and simple illustrations of football players in various aspects of the game. There are also patterns of cheerleaders, a coach, and a referee.
