Artemisia Gentileschi (1593 - 1653), was one of the first women artists to achieve recognition in the male-dominated world of post-Renaissance art. Barn Beauty

Release Date: 2014-06-28

Number of Patterns: 22

Barns are agricultural buildings located in farmlands. Their uses are varied – housing livestock, storing crops and equipment, and providing a covered work space. Barns have been traditionally painted red for many centuries, a custom which has unknown origins. Some theories attempt to explain this by suggesting that farmers added blood of a recently slaughtered animal to the linseed oil used for paint. Another theory is that farmers added rust to the old as a way to kill off moss and mold. When paint became more available, farmers choose red as a way to honor the traditional. Barns are sometimes painted in a whitewash if the cost of the paint is a factor. Our pattern set of Barns are based on some creative photographs showing these structures in various lighting and weather conditions. These weathered barns are shown back dropped against clear and cloudy skies with crop fields, grassy pastures, wooded fences, country roads, and horses nearby.

Bartolom Esteban Murillo - Spanish Baroque Painter

Release Date: 2011-08-27

Number of Patterns: 21

Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (1617-1682) was a Spanish Baroque painter who painted scenes of everyday life in seventeenth century Seville, Spain. He also painted many religious themes including the Annunciation, Madonna and Child, and the Immaculate Conception. In the centuries after his death, he had a great reputation in Europe (even more so than Velázquez) and considered the last great painter of the Spanish Golden Age. Murillo's paintings bridge the dark simplicity of Spain's early Baroque artists and the sensuality of the approaching Rococo era. Our collection of patterns includes a wide selection of his art including A Girl and Her Duenna, Beggar Boys eating Grapes and Melon, The Flower Girl, St. Lesmes, The Little Fruit Seller, Young Boys Playing Dice, and a self portrait.
