John Hoppner - English Portrait Painter

John Hoppner (1758-1810) was a English Portrait Painter who emulated the earlier style of Sir Joshua Reynolds. His talents as an artist were discovered in his childhood, and he quickly became a notable artist who many famous individuals desired to sit for. His clients included the Prince of Wales (who sat more than once), Sir Walter Scott, the Duke and Duchess of York, Sir George Beaumont, Lord Nelson, Lord Rodney, Frere, and the Duke of Wellington. Hoppner’s portraits were proudly displayed in St. James’s Palace staterooms. Hoppner was best at creating images of children and women. John Hoppner is known throughout the art world as a brilliant colorist due to his genius use of vivid color in his pieces. Our pattern set for John Hoppner contains many of his loved portraits including Adam Duncan, Princess Mary, Mrs. Williams, Viscant Lascelles, Mrs Abington, Captain George Portner, The Sackville Children, Sir George Beaumont, and Anne Isabella Milbanke.

John James Audubon - French-American Naturalist

John James Audubon (1785-1851) meticulously painted, catalogued, and described many North America bird species in the late eighteen century. Born with an affinity towards birds, he devoted much of his life to the all aspects of them including their nests, eggs, habitat, and pictural depiction at a very high artistic standard. Our collection of patterns contains a wide selection taken from a voluminous collection of his drawings. You'll find geese, flamingos, teals, eagles, pelicans, herons, and buzzards. There are also a few non-bird patterns including a deer and a hare.

John Singer Sargent - American Portrait Painter

John Singer Sargent (1856 - 1925) was a leading portrait painter of his time. Although his parents were US citizens, they left the country a few years before John was born. John was a nomadic expatriate for much of his life. His family resided in Paris but frequently traveled throughout Europe. Through the influence of his artistically talented parents, and studies at both the Academy of Florence and École des Beaux-Arts, as well as private training with several artists in Paris, John's talents as a painter were developed. His early subject matters were landscapes; however he was influenced by his mentor, Carolus-Duran, to do portraits. Of the more than 900 oil paintings, and 2000 watercolors, our collection of patterns contains a subset of 47 well known works. These include: Spanish Dancer, Lady Agnew of Lochnaw, Frederick Law Olmsted, The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit, Morning Walk, Theodore Roosevelt, Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose, Robert Louis Stevenson, and John D. Rockerfeller.

Joseph Blackburn - Colonial American Portrait Painter

Joseph Blackburn (1700-?-1778?) was a portrait painter born in England who worked in Bermuda and Colonial America. His skills as a painter are shown by his treatments of textiles including silks, laces, and fabric folds. In this pattern set we've included most of his most renown paintings including High Jones, Colonel Theodore Atkinson, Mary Leh, Captain John Pigett, Samuel Cutts, Elizabeth Browne Rogers, Ann Saltonstall, and Abigail Chesebrough.

Joseph Mallord William Turner - Painter of Light

Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775 - 1851) was a controversial English landscape painter. His eccentric style matched his subjects - shipwrecks, fires, natural catastrophes, as well as natural phenomena such as sunlight, storms, rain, and fog. The significance of light to Turner resembled God's spirit. In his later paintings he concentrated on the play of light on water and the radiances of skies and fires, almost to an Impressionistic style. Our collection of Joseph Mallord William Turner patterns includes many examples of his style including The Fighting Temeraire, The Shipwreck of the Minotaur, Snow Storm, The Grand Canal, Peace - Burial at Sea, and Rain, Steam and Speed .

Jos Agustn Arrieta - Mexican Painter of the People

José Agustín Arrieta (1803-1874) was a Mexican painter known for painting scenes and people of his native city, Puebla. Influenced by Murillo and Velázquez, he was skilled in the use of color, anatomy, and composition. He is best known for his depictions of everyday life, capturing food, people, and clothing of the Puebla village. His still life depictions full of food, glassware, animals, and fruits, are of a natural representation, avoiding any symbolism. Our pattern collection contains his most recognized works including The Gypsy Boy and Girl, Tertulia de Pulquería, Maid, Village Girl, Mexican Family, and a number of his Still Life's.

Joshua Reynolds - English Portrait Painter

Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792) was an eighteen century English painter who specialized in portraits. He was one of the founders of the Royal Academy of Arts in London which promotes arts through education and exhibition. He is best known for his numerous portraits, particularly those of children where their innocence and natural grace was emphasized. Reynolds was a hard worker who never married, and had constant interaction from the wealthy and famous men of the day. Our pattern set collection of Joshua Reynolds, contains a cross section of portrait styles including Lord Keppel, Jane Fleming, Lavinia Spencer, Lord Robert Spencer, George Townshend, John Frederick Sackville, Edward Cornwallis, Young Fortune Teller, Gertrude Duchess of Bedford, and many more.

Juan Gris - Spanish Cubist Artist

Juan Gris (1887-1927) was a Spanish painter and sculptor who is most commonly associated with the Cubist movement of the early 20th century. In Cubism, art pieces are broken up into pieces and then reassembled in an abstracted form to allow them to be viewed from multiple viewports. Juan was close friends with another Cubist painter, Pablo Picasso, but instead focused on synthetic cubism where objects were no longer recognizable in their original form, but took on new forms. Juan experimented with different materials as well adapting a collage technique in numerous works. Our collection of patterns includes a broad sampling of his cubism style including Guitar and Pipe, Portrait of Picasso, Harlequin with Guitar, The Packet of Cigars, Violin and Checkerboard, the Bull Fighter, Landscape with Houses at Ceret, and A Man in a Café.

Jules Tavernier - Hawaii's Volcano School Artist

Jules Tavernier (1844-1889) was a French painter and was an artist of Hawaii’s Volcano School., a group of non-Hawaiian artists who painted nocturnal scenes of Hawaii's erupting Volcanoes. Taverier also painted landscapes in the San Francisco and Monterey areas. His work was so popular in Hawaii that he became the official painter to the king. Our pattern set contains Volcano at Night, Wailuku Falls, Sunrise over Diamond Head, Marin Sunset in Back of Petaluma, El Capitan, Indian Encampment, A Balloon in Mid-Air, West Coast Indian Baskets on a Blanket, and Waiting for Montezuma.

Katsushika Hokusai - Creative Japanese Artist

Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) was a Japanese artist of the Edo period. He is best known for the woodblock print series, thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji which includes his most recognizable work, The Great Wave off Kanagawa. He was first trained with ukiyo-e, a style of wood block prints and paintings. Later Hokusai explored other styles of art, including European styles he was exposed to through French and Dutch copper engravings. He mastered Surimono, an experimental genre of Japanese woodblock print. At the high of his career, he created the Hokusai Manga a collection of sketches of various subjects including landscapes, flora, and fauna as well as the thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji set, his most defining set. In his later years, he produced One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji which was another significant landscape series. Our collection of Hokusai patterns includes many from the Thirty-six View collection and a number of other pieces he is known for including Dragon, Carp Leaping up a Cascade, The strong Oi Pouring Sake, and Portrait of a Woman holding a Fan.

Lady Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is a massive sculpture located in New York Harbor. It was designed by Frédéric Bartholdi and is a gift to the United States from France. Dedicated in 1886, it has become an icon of liberty and freedom and a recognized landmark throughout the world. The 151 foot Lady Liberty holds a torch with her right hand and a tablet, symbolizing the law, in her left hand. Our set of Lady Liberty patterns are based on a wonderful set of photographs of the statue. Back dropped against blue skies, and wispy clouds, the patterns show the Statue of Liberty from many angles and various close-ups. We've also included a pattern of the Las Vegas replica of the statue.

Leapin' Lizards

Lizards are a widespread group of reptiles with nearly 1000 species. They're characterized with feet, external ears, scaled and spiny body, vivid coloring in their tails, a brightly colored dewlap on their throat. Common lizard types include Iguana, anoles, geckos, Komodo dragon, spiny-tailed lizards, thorny devil, Gila monster, Jackson's chameleon, Central bearded dragon, Our pattern set for lizards includes many well photographed lizards in various natural settings. The Lizards are in numerous colors and some are well camouflaged into their environments. There are also some well composed lizard close-ups.
