Abstract Beauty

Photography is generally used to capture a realistic view of objects and scenes. However you can also capture beautiful and abstract images with a bit of creativity. These amazing art forms show little resemblance to the original subject. Photographers use tools such as macro and zoom lens, colored lighting, cropping, off-angle vantage points, shutter speeds, film speeds, and exposure to produce artful images. Our collection of patterns in this set were created from photography taken of everyday scenes - apples, rain puddles, piles of paper, swirling lights, swimming pools, peeling paint, metal benches, and fan blades.

Albert Bierstadt - German-American Landscape Painter

Albert Bierstadt (1830-1902) was a German-American landscape painter. He achieved fame by joining several trips of the Westward Expansion and painting the vast landscapes in a style known as luminism, characterized by glowing lights and a romantic mood. Although criticized for using enormous canvases and exaggerated lighting and coloring, his paintings were popular in their day, providing many viewers with a glance of the newly accessible American West. Our set of Albert Bierstadt patterns contains many works showing various landscape scenes including In the Sierras, Yosemite Valley, Call of the Wild, Seal Rock, Pikes Peak, Elk, The Coming Storm, Rocky Mountain Sheep, and San Francisco Bay.

Albrecht Dürer - Northern Renaissance Master

Albrecht Dürer (1471 - 1528) was a German artist from Nuremberg. He is generally regarded as the greatest painter of the Northern Renaissance (in Europe, outside of Italy). His talents included the use of paints, woodcuts, engraving, and watercolors. He introduced classical themes in his works and applied many theories of mathematics, perspective, and ideal proportions. He influenced a great number of painters in succeeding generations. Our collection of Albrecht Dürer patterns includes several self portraits and many examples of his styles including Saint Jerome in His Study, Knight, Death, and the Devil, Melencolia, Young Hare, Adam and Eve, Praying Hands, Great Piece of Turf, and many portraits including Oswolt Krel, Hieronymus Holzschuher, Barbara Dürer, Bernhard von Reesen, Emperor Sigismund, and Elsbeth Tucher.

Alfred Sisley - English Impressionist

Alfred Sisley (1839-1899) was a French Impressionist of English origins whose work is considered the most typical for Impressionist painters, never varying much from his landscape scenes of the French countryside. His paintings capture scenery from several cities around Paris including Argenteuil, Marly, Moret, Louveciennes and Bougival. Alfred Stevens - Belgian Painter

Alfred Stevens (1823 – 1906) was a Belgian painter was the son of an art collector. He developed a conventional naturalistic style influenced by 17th century Dutch genre painting. He also studied works by painters such as Gerard ter Borch and Gabriel Metsu. He influenced social attitudes towards the poor with a work titled What is called Vagrancy. Many of his works use elegant modern woman as subjects. He also painted several works using a fashionable taste called japonisme which Stevens was an early enthusiast. Our pattern set collection contains many of Alfred Stevens most recognized works including The Bath, The Japanese Parisian, What is called Vagrancy, Portrait of Mrs. Howe, Woman in a Straw Hat, Woman Wearing a Bracelet, Reveil, Woman in Pink, New from Afar, and Lady at a Window Feeding Birds.

Aliens and UFOs

UFOs are unidentified flying objects and is an object in the sky not readily identifiable to any observer as a known object. In popular culture in the 1950's the term flying saucer was also attributed to these objects, based on several publicized sightings. Aliens are extraterrestrial life forms, typically considered to be more advanced than humans. Whether real or imaginary, UFOs and Alien creatures make for fascinating folk lore, urban legends, and science fiction entertainment. Our set of UFO and Alien patterns are based on simple illustrations which depict the most common attributes of both. You'll find aliens with large eyes, triangular head shapes, green colored skin, thin arms and legs, and long necks, and UFOs in the form of flying saucers with pulsing lights.

Amedeo Modigliani - Italian Modern Painter

Amedeo Modigliani (1884 – 1920) was an Italian painter and sculptor who lived mostly in France. He is best known for his portraits and nudes with a characteristic style of elongated faces and figures. He achieved little success during his life, but after his death his works became very popular and were sold for high prices. He is known to have painted from a very early age and was indulged by his mother to continue in that profession. Our Modigliani pattern set includes many of his well known portraits including Pablo Picasso, Juan Gris, Jeanne Hébuterne, Madame Kisling, Maude Abrantes, Chaim Soutine, Leopold Zborowski, Young Redhead in an Evening Dress, Gypsy Woman with Baby , The Little Peasant, Bride and Groom , and Beatrice Hastings. There is also a self portrait and several nudes.

Amigos

Amigos (Spanish and Portuguese for friends), is a term of endearment we use for people and comrades we know well and trust. Our Amigos pattern set contains many well designed and fun images depicting Mexican-themed people and concepts. Just in time for Cinco de Mayo, you'll find cowboys on their horses, mariachi performers with their musical instruments and maracas, colorful flamenco dancers and singers, iguanas, dancing chili peppers, some guy taking a siesta, and even a few cacti.

Anders Leonard Zorn - Swedish Portrait Painter

Anders Leonard Zorn (1860 - 1920) was one of Sweden's best portrait painters. Although skilled as a sculptor and printmaker, Anders achieved his fame with the use of oils and watercolors depicting rustic life, nudes, and an assortment of portraits. His skill with portraits lies with his ability to depict the individual character of the person. Lighting and the treatment of water were particularly extraordinary in his works. Anders believed that a portrait should be painted in an environment that was natural for the model. Our collection of Anders Zorn patterns contains many of his most recognized works including Margit, Midsummer Dance, Our Daily Bread, A Fisherman in St. Ives, and Night Effect. There are also several self-portraits included.

Animals at Play

Anthony Van Dyck - Flemish Portrait Painter

Anthony Van Dyck (1599-1641) was one of the great Flemish Painters of the 17th century. His refined and elegant style is an underlying strength in all of his works. He is perhaps best known as the painter for Charles I for whom he created a multitude of portraits with royalty as subjects. Our SegPlayPC collection of 29 images showcases many of his well-known portrait images. You'll find several self-portraits (including the Sunflower one). There are also portraits of Charles I, Henrietta Marie, Elena Grimaldi, Marie-Louise de Tassis, Frans and Margareta Synders, William II Prince of Orange, Nicholas Lanier, Isabella Brant, and the three eldest children of Charles I.

Apple of My Eye

Apples are the most widely cultivated tree fruits in the world. They've been grown for thousands of years in many historical cultures. Although apples have been the focus of many legends and traditions, the most recognized placement of apples is in the biblical story of the Garden of Eden where they referred to as the forbidden fruit. Apples and other fruits are commonly used as art subject typically placed in a fruit bowl. Our collection of Apple patterns depicts them in natural settings both on the tree and harvested in baskets. Different lighting and backgrounds are used to highlight the apple. Some apples in these patterns are held up in hands and others even have some bites taken out them.
