Alfred Stevens - Belgian Painter

Alfred Stevens (1823 – 1906) was a Belgian painter was the son of an art collector. He developed a conventional naturalistic style influenced by 17th century Dutch genre painting. He also studied works by painters such as Gerard ter Borch and Gabriel Metsu. He influenced social attitudes towards the poor with a work titled What is called Vagrancy. Many of his works use elegant modern woman as subjects. He also painted several works using a fashionable taste called japonisme which Stevens was an early enthusiast. Our pattern set collection contains many of Alfred Stevens most recognized works including The Bath, The Japanese Parisian, What is called Vagrancy, Portrait of Mrs. Howe, Woman in a Straw Hat, Woman Wearing a Bracelet, Reveil, Woman in Pink, New from Afar, and Lady at a Window Feeding Birds.

Giotto di Bondone - Father of European Painting

Giotto di Bondone (1266? - 1337) was an early Italian Renaissance Painter and Architect from Florence. Giotto made a radical break from the Byzantine (abstract - anti-naturalistic) style and brought more life to art. Giotto primarily painted Christian themes depicted in cycles and is best known for his frescos in various Chapels (Arene Chapel, Florence Cathedral, Assisi, Scrovegni). Our pattern set collection features many of his more familiar works including the Ognissanti Madonna, The Mourning of Christ, The Marriage at Cana, The Mourning of St. Francis, Crucifixion and Madonna and Child.

Hugo van der Goes - Flemish Painter

Hugo van der Goes (c. 1440 - 1482-83) was a Flemish painter best known for his Portinari Altarpiece in which he depicts the adoration of the shepherds. The work is in the form of a Triptych (three hinged panels) and is the largest Netherlandish work that could be seen in Florence at the time. He was a master in the painter's guild in the city of Ghent and is considered the greatest Netherlandish painter of the second half of the 15th century for both his masterful handling of oil painting and psychological depiction of individuals in his scenes. Our set contains most of his works including The Fall of Man, The Adoration of the Shepherd, The Calvary Triptych, The Monforte Altarpiece, and The Lamentation of Christ.

Masaccio - Early Renaissance Painter

Masaccio (1401-1428) was a painter of the early Italian Renaissance. He is considered the best painter of his time because of his skill at recreating lifelike figures and movements as well as a feeling of 3 dimensions. He profoundly influenced the art of painting in the renaissance and directed the art style away from Gothic art to a more humanistic world. He had a brief life span of only 26 years. One of his early works, San Giovenale Triptych shows signs of portraying a 3D effect by foreshortening of some forms and portrays volumetric figures. Another well known piece, The Expulsion from the Garden of Eden, had an impact on other painters including Michelangelo. Our Masaccio pattern set collection contains much of his works including Young Man, The Tribute Money, The Expulsion from the Garden of Eden, Stories of St. Julian and St. Nichols, Adoration of Magi, Crocifissione Napoli, The Madonna and Child with St. Anne, San Giovenale Triptych, St. Peter Healing the Sick with his Shadow, and Raising of the Son of Theophilus and St. Peter Enthroned. There’s also a self portrait of Masaccio.

Majestic Forests

Forests are large areas of land covered with trees or other woody vegetation. They are the dominant ecosystem on our planet. They can contain many species of trees or just be dominated by only a few. Forests can be classified into 26 types depending on their elevation, climatic zones, and types of trees. You’ll find an assortment of forest patterns in this set created from amazing high resolution photographs which depict forests in different seasons, weather, and lighting conditions. A wide range of colors and incredible details gives these patterns a special look when completed.

Thomas Doughty - American Landscape Artist

Thomas Doughty (1793 – 1856) was an American painter of the Hudson River School, a movement of landscape artists living in New York whose artistic vision was greatly influenced by romanticism. Thomas Doughty is best known for his landscapes, painted at time where Americans were being more interested in them. Our pattern set for Thomas Doughty contains many examples of his works containing distant mountains, cloudy skies, forests, lakes and rivers, with an occasion building, human figure, and animal included. The patterns include Ruins in a Landscape, In the Catskills, White Mountains New Hampshire, Maine Seacoast, View of the Fairmount Waterworks, Scituate Beach Massachusetts, Landscape after Ruisdael, and View on the St. Croix River near Robbinston.

Gustave Moreau - French Symbolist Painter

Gustave Moreau (1826 - 1898) was a French Symbolist painter who focused on biblical and mythological themes. Symbolists believed that art should represent absolute truths that could only be described and depicted indirectly. Moreau painted over 8000 works in his career. He was a teacher at the Paris' École des Beaux-Arts late in his life. To some Gustave was regarded as a precursor to Surrealism. Our pattern set includes many of his known works including Oedipus and the Sphinx, The Apparition, The Unicorne, Eve, Cleopatra, The Sirens, The Chimera, Galatea, and Thracian Girl Carrying the Head of Orpheus
