SegPlay^® PC Pattern Sets

Albert Bierstadt (1830-1902) was a German-American landscape painter. He achieved fame by joining several trips of the Westward Expansion and painting the vast landscapes in a style known as luminism, characterized by glowing lights and a romantic mood. Although criticized for using enormous canvases and exaggerated lighting and coloring, his paintings were popular in their day, providing many viewers with a glance of the newly accessible American West. Our set of Albert Bierstadt patterns contains many works showing various landscape scenes including In the Sierras, Yosemite Valley, Call of the Wild, Seal Rock, Pikes Peak, Elk, The Coming Storm, Rocky Mountain Sheep, and San Francisco Bay.

Juan Gris (1887-1927) was a Spanish painter and sculptor who is most commonly associated with the Cubist movement of the early 20th century. In Cubism, art pieces are broken up into pieces and then reassembled in an abstracted form to allow them to be viewed from multiple viewports. Juan was close friends with another Cubist painter, Pablo Picasso, but instead focused on synthetic cubism where objects were no longer recognizable in their original form, but took on new forms. Juan experimented with different materials as well adapting a collage technique in numerous works. Our collection of patterns includes a broad sampling of his cubism style including Guitar and Pipe, Portrait of Picasso, Harlequin with Guitar, The Packet of Cigars, Violin and Checkerboard, the Bull Fighter, Landscape with Houses at Ceret, and A Man in a Café.

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880-1938) was a German Expressionist Painter and involved with the foundation of Expressionism in 20th century art. Trained as an architect, Ernst founded an artist group known as ‘The Bridge’, which was mandated with ignoring the traditional academic style of painting and finding a new way to express artistic styles. This bohemian group overthrew social conventions and was accepting of nudity, and other freedoms from established forces. The unconventional lifestyle allowed Ernst to express his artistic talents in a radically new format from established art styles. Our pattern set includes many of his known works including Marzella, Self Portrait as a Solider, Tavern, Nollendorfplatz, Erna, Fränzi in front of a Carved Chair, Bridge at the Mouth of the Weisseritz, Dr. Alfred Döblin, and Czardas Dancers.

Jean-François Millet (1814-1875) was a French painter best known for his depictions of peasant farmers. His works are considered part of the naturalism and realism movements. He was one of the founders of the Barbizon school whose artists focused more on creating realistic works of art, rather than the more popular romantic style of the day. The French landscape was a popular them of the Barbizon school. Many of Millet’s works involve field workers, but he also created a number of portraits and interior scenes. Our collection of patterns includes most of his most recognized works including The Angelus, The Potato Harvest, The Gleaners, The Sheepfold, Woman Baking Bread, Haystacks, The Man with a Hoe, and The Sower.

William Merritt Chase (1849-1916) was an American Impressionist Painter who established a school for artists known as the Chase School. He played various roles in his life including an artist, teacher, father, and sophisticated cosmopolitan. Although he worked with all media, he was most talented in oil painting and pastel, as well as watercolor. He is best known for his portraits, who sitters included important people of the day and also his family members. Locations including Prospect Park, Central Park in New York City, and Shinnecock Hills on Long Island were popular locations for his outdoor paintings. Our set of patterns includes several self portraits, and numerous portraits including Portrait of a Lady, lady in Pink, Lady in Black, The Blue Kimono, Girl in Red Embroided Jacket, The Mandolin Player, Still Life Fish, At the Seaside, Azaleas, Girl in Japanese Costume, Portrait of Miss Dora Wheeler, and Portrait of Louis Betts.

Gerard ter Borch (1617 – 1681) was a Dutch Genre Painter who depicted life in middle class 17th century Holland. He was influenced early in his life by his father, also a painter. His works were both portraits and interior scenes. Some elements of his unique style include his handling of drapery and satins, and also painting a full body portrait, rather than just the face. The colors in his paintings are subdued, due largely to the dress coloring of the times. We’ve included numerous well known paintings in this pattern set including The Letter, The Concert, The Spinner, The Card Players, Boy Fleaing his Dog, Hunting for Lice, Woman Drinking with a Sleeping Solider, and The Glass of Lemonade. There’s also a self-portrait included.
