Ingres - French Neoclassical and Portrait Painter

Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres (1780-1867) was a French Neoclassical Painter who was also a master of painting portraits. His self view was that of a guardian and conservator of the past style of art forms. In reality, his art style which utilized distortions of form and style, particularly with his numerous portraits, serve as a precursor to modern art. Our pattern collection contains many examples of his neoclassical works including Oedipus and the Sphinx, Jupiter and Thetis, and The Source. We've also included many of his portraits including Madame Rivere, Madame Aymon, Mme. Moitessier, Louis-François Bertin, François Marius Granet, Edme-François-Joseph Bochet, and Jean Baptiste Desdeban.

Claude Monet - Founder of French Impressionism

Claude Monet (1840-1926) was a founder of an artist movement known as Impressionist painting. In fact, the term Impressionism is derived from the title of one of his paintings 'Impression, Sunrise' which was done in 1872. His wife's name was Camlile and she was the subject of several of his paintings (The Woman in the Green Dress, The Woman in the Garden, The Red Kerchief) as was his first son Jean (Hobby Horse). He lived in various cities throughout his live including Paris, Normandy, London, Vétheuil, Vernon, and Giverny where many of his well-known garden scenes were painted. Our pattern set includes a vast selection of Monet's art pieces and series. You'll find many well known paintings including Impression, Sunrise, Woman in the Green Dress, Houses of Parliament, Haystacks, Water Lilies, Nympheas, Rouen Cathedral, and Bouquet of Sunflowers. There's also a self-portrait of Monet included in this large set.

Frans Hals - Dutch Portrait Painter

Frans Hals (1580-1666) was a Dutch Golden Age painter who is best known for his many portrait paintings. His style is noted for a loose brush style and also helped evolve the 17th century group portraiture. He lived most of his life in the city of Haarlem, where his talents for painting were greatly in demand, particularly by wealthy citizens. Our collection of patterns contains many of his most recognizable paintings including Jester with a Lute, Portrait of René Descartes, Pieter van dem Broecke, Malle Babbe, Marriage Portrait of Isaac Massa, Two Boys Singing, and The Laughing Cavalier.

Peter Paul Rubens - Flemish Baroque Painter

Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) was a Flemish Baroque Painter living in Antwerp. He was a proponent of the Flemish art style, which included movement, color, and sensuality. He is well known for his religious altarpieces, portraits, landscapes, and history paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects. His travels to Italy and Spain allowed him to be influenced by other masters including Titian, Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci. Our collection of patterns includes Honeysuckle Bower, The Elevation of the Cross, Venus at the Mirror, and Prometheus Bound.

Artemisia Gentileschi - Italian Baroque Painter

Artemisia Gentileschi (1593 - 1653), was one of the first women artists to achieve recognition in the male-dominated world of post-Renaissance art. She was the first woman to paint major historical and religious scenarios, especially in an era when women painters were not easily accepted by the artistic community. She unfortunately is also known for being a rape victim in a well-publicized trial in 1612, an event that later affected her painting style and themes. Our patterns show nearly all of her well recognized works including Susanna and the Elders, Judith Slaying Holofernes, Danaë, Saint Cecilia, and several self-portraits including Self Portrait as a Female Martyr.

George Catlin - Painter of American Indians

George Catlin (1796-1872) was an American painter who traveled throughout the Americas and painted many portraits of American Indians. At the beginning of his career after a stint as a lawyer, he traveled with William Clark into Native American territory. He eventually visited up to 50 different tribes at a time when they were untouched by European civilization. His lifetime collection of art works total over 500 accompanied by over 700 sketches. Our collection of patterns contains a great many of his portraits of male and female Indian chiefs, warriors, braves, medicine men, and ball players. There are also patterns with buffalos, horses, and a river landscape.

John James Audubon - French-American Naturalist

John James Audubon (1785-1851) meticulously painted, catalogued, and described many North America bird species in the late eighteen century. Born with an affinity towards birds, he devoted much of his life to the all aspects of them including their nests, eggs, habitat, and pictural depiction at a very high artistic standard. Our collection of patterns contains a wide selection taken from a voluminous collection of his drawings. You'll find geese, flamingos, teals, eagles, pelicans, herons, and buzzards. There are also a few non-bird patterns including a deer and a hare.

Thomas Gainsborough - Versatile English Painter

Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788) was one of the most versatile painters of 18th century Britain. He equally masterfully painted both portraits and landscapes and painted more from human observation than from formal academic rules. While portraiture was his profession landscape painting was his pleasure. Unlike many painters of his time, Gainsborough had little interest in literary or historical themes. His most famous works include The Blue Boy, Portrait of a Lady in Blue, and Mr and Mrs Andrews.

Pieter de Hooch - Dutch Interior Painter

Pieter de Hooch (1629 - 1684) was a Dutch Genre painter who is noted for his interior scenes, strong use of perspective, and accurate lighting. His works are similar to those of his Dutch contemporary, Johannes Vermeer, in both content and style. Although he initially painted soldiers and their surroundings, he turned his attention to painting genre scenes depicting Dutch domestic life. Many of these scenes include home interiors, courtyards, and gardens with women as the main characters. Our set of patterns includes his most well known scenes including At the Linen Closet, Woman with a Child in a Pantry, and Soldiers playing Cards.

Sandro Botticelli - Florentine Artist

Sandro Botticelli (1445 - 1510) was an Italian painter of the Florentine school during the early part of the Renaissance. Several of his works are considered to be among the most recognized masterpieces of florentine art. He developed a highly personalized style taking the linear approach to new levels of sophistication. He spent almost all of his life working for the influential families of Florence, in particular the Medici family for whom he mostly painted portraits. Our set of patterns includes his most important works including the Adoration of the Magi, The Birth of Venus, Venus and Mars, Primavera,Portrait of a Man with a Medal, The Return of Judith, Portait of a Young Man, and The Annunciation. There are also many portraits, and several of his "Madonna and Child" paintings he completed late in his life.

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec - French Post-Impressionist

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was a French painter in the late nineteenth century who observed and captured in his works, the Parisian nightlife of the period. His favorite scenes included circuses, nightclubs, brothels, and racetracks. Short in stature and having a propensity to drinking, Henri made the most of his short life and is most remembered for his Moulin Rouge themed paintings and posters. Our SegPlayPC collection has a broad selection of Toulouse-Lautrec's artwork including The Toilette, Justine Dieuhl, Moulin Rouge: La Goulue, La Goulue Arriving at the Moulin Rouge, Two Women Waltzing, Yvette Guilbert, The Medical Inspection, and Ambassadeurs: Aristide Bruant.

Berthe Morisot - Female Impressionist

Berthe Morisot was a 19th century French painter in a talented group known as the Impressionists. She had a close acquaintance with Édouard Manet, another well-known impressionist painter, and married his brother, Eugene. Their daughter, Julie, became the subject of many of Berthe's paintings. Probably because she was female, her work was undervalued for over a century. She is now considered among the most elite of the impressionists. Our SegPlayPC set contains 30 of her best works, which demonstrate her focus on the intimacy of family and domestic life. We've included The Cradle, Grain Field, The Harbor at Lorient, Chasing Butterflies, Summer Day, Young Girl with Cage, The Cheval Glass, The Dining Room, Mother and Sister of the Artist Reading and Woman at her Toilet.
