Derby Day

The Kentucky Derby is an annual horse race for Thoroughbred horses which takes place in Louisville, Kentucky on the first Saturday in May. We celebrate the most exciting two minutes in sports with a pattern set which captures the spirit of this derby and other horse races. You'll find patterns of horses galloping to the finish line, excited jockeys, close ups of horses, a Churchill Downs sign, and of course a mint julep!

Thomas Cole - Founder of the Hudson River School

Thomas Cole (1801-1848) was an American artist who is regarded as the Founder of the Hudson River School. This school represented an art movement that emphasized realistic and detailed portraits of the American landscape with themes of romanticism and naturalism. Thomas Cole was born in England, but moved to the United States as a youth. His talents for painting were soon discovered and his works focused on landscapes. He also painted allegorical works including his famous ""The Course of Empire"" serie

Saint Patrick's Day

Saint Patrick's Day is originally a Catholic holiday which is celebrated annually on March 17. The day has evolved to become a secular celebration of Irish culture. Saint Patrick was a real person who joined the Church in Britain around the year 432, and among other legends, used the shamrock to teach the Christian doctrine of the Trinity to the Irish people. Today many participate in this event by wearing green clothing and other items. Our pattern set contains many elements of this holiday including leprechauns, pots of gold, rainbows, clovers, large green hats, and of course drinking green beer.

Giovanni Bellini - Italian Renaissance Artist

Giovanni Bellini (c. 1430-1516) was an Italian Renaissance Artist who is considered to revolutionize Venetian painting with his sensuous and colorful style applied with slow drying paints. He is the best known painter from the Bellini family of painters. His early style can be described as Quattrocento, which incorporates classical art forms from Greek and Roman sculptors. His later works matured into a more progressive style and incorporated many instances of religious symbolism through natural elements. Our large set of Bellini patterns contains a wide cross section of his works. There are many versions of Madonna and Child, St. Jerome, Christ, and numerous portraits. There are also patterns of his Four Allegories (Lust, Falsehood, Fortune, and Prudence), two altarpieces (San Giobbe and San Zaccaria) and a self-portrait.

On Cloud Nine

Clouds are visible masses of water droplets which are suspended in the earth's atmosphere. Clouds are classified in various groups depending on their altitude, structural appearance, and coloration. Cirrocumulus, Cirrostratus, Altocumulus, Altostratus, Stratocumulus, Stratus, Cumulus, Nimbostratus, and Cumulonimbus, are the most common names given. Their coloration gives clues on what they contain due to light scattering effects of water drops and ice crystals and the direction of the light hitting the clouds. Our set of cloud patterns will put you on Cloud Nine. We have many representations of clouds of various types photographed against cactuses, birds, bridges, shades, water, and grass fields. Several of the patterns are based on clouds images which have been artistically enhanced to give them a different yet, fun, and colorful appearance.

Jan Steen - Dutch Genre Painter

Jan Steen (c. 1626 - 1679) was a Dutch genre painter of the Dutch Golden Age. His paintings of Dutch family life, celebrations, and outdoor scenes are both lively and humorous. He also painted numerous portraits, religious, and historical scenes. In 1672 when the art market collapsed, Jan opened a tavern. Our pattern set includes many of his most recognized pieces including Self Portrait, The Merry Family, The Sick Woman, The Doctor's Visit, The Dancing Couple, The Feast of St. Nicholas, The World Upside Down, The Lovesick Woman, and The Picnic.

Tulips are perennial plants with colorful flowers that are grown in gardens or potted plants, and displayed as fresh cut flowers. Tulips have bulbs which are short stems with a leaf base which serves as a food storage area. Their large attractive flowers are comprised of three petals and three sepals, which are often referred to as six tepals. You can find tulips in many colors, except for pure blue. Our set of tulip patterns were created from a great set of photographs and depict tulips from many angles. Close up and macro photography was used to capture the finest details of these springtime flowers.

William Blake - English Romantic Artist

William Blake (1757 - 1827) was a English Romantic Age painter, poet, and printmaker. His wild imagination and idiosyncratic views have kept him in high regards with the art critics. He began his career as an engraver and also did relief etchings. Zodiac Signs

The Zodiac is a ring of constellations that form a path across the celestial sky that the Sun takes. There are twelve constellations which divide the path into equal portions. Although the zodiac remains the basis of the ecliptic coordinate system in use in astronomy, the term "zodiac" and the names of the twelve signs are mostly associated with horoscopes. John Singer Sargent - American Portrait Painter

John Singer Sargent (1856 - 1925) was a leading portrait painter of his time. Although his parents were US citizens, they left the country a few years before John was born. John was a nomadic expatriate for much of his life. His family resided in Paris but frequently traveled throughout Europe. Through the influence of his artistically talented parents, and studies at both the Academy of Florence and École des Beaux-Arts, as well as private training with several artists in Paris, John's talents as a painter were developed. His early subject matters were landscapes; however he was influenced by his mentor, Carolus-Duran, to do portraits. Of the more than 900 oil paintings, and 2000 watercolors, our collection of patterns contains a subset of 47 well known works. These include: Spanish Dancer, Lady Agnew of Lochnaw, Frederick Law Olmsted, The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit, Morning Walk, Theodore Roosevelt, Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose, Robert Louis Stevenson, and John D. Rockerfeller.

Rain is liquid precipitation which is a common weather event throughout the world. Rain has a emotional impact on people depending where they live. In temperate climates, rain tends to increase the stress level, whereas in dry places rain can be soothing and lift people's spirit. We hope our collection of rain-themed patterns lifts your spirits! We've included a number of well composed photographic images which convey rainy scenes: showing rain drops on leaves, branches, and flowers, rain falling in puddles and streams, and rain falling in desert and mountainous terrains.

Albrecht Drer - Northern Renaissance Master

Albrecht Dürer (1471 - 1528) was a German artist from Nuremberg. He is generally regarded as the greatest painter of the Northern Renaissance (in Europe, outside of Italy). His talents included the use of paints, woodcuts, engraving, and watercolors. He introduced classical themes in his works and applied many theories of mathematics, perspective, and ideal proportions. He influenced a great number of painters in succeeding generations.
