Hot Air Ballooning

For hundreds of years, man has experienced flight in hot air balloons. The bag of the balloon, referred to as an envelope, is filled with heated air. The gondola (typically made with wicker or rattan) below contains both the source of the heat and the passengers. Propane is generally used as the fuel for the burner. Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775 - 1851) was a controversial English landscape painter. George Catlin - Painter of American Indians

George Catlin (1796-1872) was an American painter who traveled throughout the Americas and painted many portraits of American Indians. At the beginning of his career after a stint as a lawyer, he traveled with William Clark into Native American territory. He eventually visited up to 50 different tribes at a time when they were untouched by European civilization. His lifetime collection of art works total over 500 accompanied by over 700 sketches. Edward Bannister - African American Artist

Artemisia Gentileschi - Italian Baroque Painter

He is more well known for his use of contemporary struggles such as the Greeks and Turks conflict as depicted in Massacre at Chios, and Greek independence as shown in Greece Expiring on the Ruins of Missolonghi. "Liberty Leading the People" is his most recognizable painting and it shows the citizens of Paris taking up arms in their independence battle against the French government. In his landscapes he created stories of peasants engaging in the rituals of village life including agriculture, hunts, meals, festivals, dances, and games.
